The Spirit of St. Louis
The spirit of St. Louis was the first plane to cross the Atlantic Ocean. It was piloted by Charles Lindbergh who was a US airmail pilot. Lindbergh wanted to do something special, so he asked for some people in St. Louis to help with money to build an airplane. The plane had the marking "N.Y.P." which was an acronym for New York to Paris. Flying from New York to Paris is just exactly what "Lucky Lindy" did. Lindbergh did not actually have much on board. He only had a few sandwiches. The Spirit of St. Louis is on display in the Smithsonian National Air and Space museum. It is a world famous airplane
