Concorde
Concorde was a magnificent aircraft that flew fare paying passengers past Mach 2 (past twice the speed of sound). It entered commercial service in 1976, and its last commercial flight was 27 years later in 2003. Supersonic passenger service is just a memory for now. One of the reasons service ended was because of a crash in the year 2000, when passengers boarded Air France flight 4590. The pilot started for take-off but when they lifted off the ground there were flames behind the airplane. The flight didn't last 2 minutes. Everybody on board and six on the ground were killed. After that, it turned in to the deadlies
The Concorde came about when JFK announced after the 70’s there would be a supersonic airliner. Boeing came out with an ambitious design while France and England signed a contract to work together. But the Russians were in the air first with their TU-144. The US didn't want to go on because of the cost and neither did the Russians, but England and France did. The Concorde went on a world tour but nobody bought the plane. So the governments of England and France supported the airplane's operation which lost money every year. Still, Concorde was the place to be seen. If you flew Concorde you were rich or famous, and you rode in ultimate comfort. Sir Paul McCartney flew once on the Concorde. But when the crash happened, Concorde went from being the safest Airline in the world to the most dangerous. The Concorde needed an upgrade and it just wasn't economical to make the modifications needed, so the air service was dropped.
