C-5 Galaxy jet
This jet makes a Boeing 747 look puny. The C-5 Galaxy is two hundred forty-seven feet long, six stories high and even longer than the first flight of the Wright flyer. The C-5 can hold two Abrams tanks comfortably, five Huey choppers or even fourteen Humvees. A Humvee is a bug compared to this plane. Along with the physical cargo, the Galaxy can carry two platoons of ground troops. When it is loading, the C-5 literally kneels to get the cargo on, as vehicles just drive up the Galaxy’s ramp. The largest and heaviest cargo must be loaded in the middle, at the plane’s center of gravity. The Galaxy is very roomy with space for cargo, troops, a cockpit, and the crew’s quarters. These mega planes are usually located at an Air Force base in Dover, Delaware. There are thirty-two of these giants. The plane is so big, it does not seem possible that it can fly, though the mechanics and pilots see to it that they fly multiple times a day. People say the C-5 could be flying twenty-five years from now. This plane is a miracle of technology.
