F/A-22 Raptor
The F/A- 22 is the Air Force’s most advanced fighter jet. With stealth-like abilities, the raptor is almost undetectable by radar. In 1975, the Air Force received the first F-15 Eagles, but other countries were building new surface to air missiles. The Air Force officials decided there would have to be another fighter built that could fly higher and faster than the F-15. Boeing and Lockheed Martin began working on what soon would be called the F/A-22 Raptor. The Raptor is both a super computer and a combat fighter, and it can fly faster and higher than any other fighter plane today. The Raptor is a critical U.S. fighter and it is used for many different types of combat missions, from bombing to dogfights. The top speed of the F/A- 22 is 1,500 MPH, using two Pratt & Whitney F119-PW-100 jet engines, each producing 3,500 pounds of thrust, for a total of 7,000 total pounds of thrust! The F/A-22 is a combat jet, so it carries air – to - air combat missiles and a cannon (gun) to take out targets. It can also carry two JDAM bombs. When firing the weapons, the internal weapons bay is open making it more visible to radar. Being on radar means the enemy can see it and has a better chance to shoot it down. But normally, ammunition is already coming their way so it doesn't really matter. The enemy won’t be able to fire before something hits them. The F/A-22 Raptor is a technologically advanced aircraft.
