P-51 Mustang
The P-51 Mustang is probably my favorite WWII fighter plane. It was definitely a technical marvel of the United States. The P-51 could fly higher than the early jets! The Mustang pilots even shot down ME 262s and Focke-wulf fw -190D (both German Luftwaffe jet aircraft)! The Mustang was armed with six 50 caliber machine guns. The P-51 was a huge relief to allied bombers because it was very stable and dependable. It’s one of the more famous planes too. With a top speed of 437 MPH the P-51 was slower than the early jets; but, it was still very impressive. Most planes flew fairly low to the ground and only reached speeds of the 300 MPH range. The P-51 was a totally awesome aircraft that helped the Allies win supremacy in the skies over Europe during the last part of WWII.
